I really enjoyed visiting the different campuses and experiencing the different environments of each.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
Keep your mind open and enjoy the process while it is happening!  Don't make a rush decision just to get it done, take your time.

Why did you choose this school?

I chose La Crosse because it has what I want to study and I loved all the people and the environment. When I visited everyone was super welcoming and now I talk to my coach every week.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable part about the recruiting process for me was getting to look at so many different schools are figure out what I did and didn’t like about each of them

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
I would say get as involved in the process as possible whether that’s calling and emailing coaches or attending ID camps. It’s your future so you want to make sure you find the home best fit for you. It may be a long journey but enjoy the process because it will be worth it in the end!

Why did you choose this school?

I chose this school because it provides three different paths for me to study in and the campus environment was warm and welcoming.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable part of the recruiting process was exploring all different colleges and their soccer programs.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
Some advice I would give would be to enjoy the process and trust that you will find a place you are meant to be.

Area of Study - Elementary Education

Why did you choose this school?

Strong teacher education program coupled with the opportunity to be part of the first women's soccer program at SIU

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
Learning about the differences in schools (e.g., size, location, culture) and soccer programs (e.g., coaches style of play, team goals, qualities to be successful).

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
Don't underestimate the time and effort required to connect with college soccer coaches.  They are flooded with emails and phone calls.  Try to make yourself standout (personalize the email, setting a call time to talk, highlight video) and be persistent (but reasonable) to connect with them.  Start the process no later than Sophomore year in high school.  Coach Albert is always willing to help.
Kate Reinhardt

Area of Study - Business

Why did you choose this school?

I chose Bucknell because I felt it was a perfect balance between academics, athletics, and social. I knew that I would get the full college experience, based on the campus and the lifestyle. I also love the coaching staff and the programs mentality.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
TThe most enjoyable part of the recruiting process was hearing positive feedback from coaches. To hear that all your hard work has paid off in the form of a compliment and/or getting recruited by a coach is beyond rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
To athletes that are just beginning the recruiting process I would stress to keep an open mind. It may sound cliche, but as a freshman you most likely don't know what you want in a school. I would encourage you to have a large list of schools and continue to add to that list. As time goes by, you will learn what you want in a school but it's important to keep an open mind along the way.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
Visiting different schools was really enjoyable for me. College campuses are all really unique and I enjoyed finding interesting things about each school and meeting new people along the way.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?

Hana Richardson
Area of study - Undecided

Why did you choose this school?

The campus, facilities, academics, athletics, and people are all amazing there. I visited three times and each visit felt more like home and I knew I would grow as a person but also athletically and academically and be taken care of. The atmosphere on campus being a college town is really unique and everyone supports every athletic program there. The Coaching staff is awesome and the soccer team has great chemistry on and off the field.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
Visiting different schools in different conferences all over the country and finally committing.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
Don't rush. Reach out to college coaches every chance you get when you go to a showcase and keep on working to improve your development for the college level. Stay in touch with coaches during the process. While visiting schools make pro and con lists to help you narrow down your decision. Choose the school you can also see yourself going to as a student and not just an athlete. Make the decision for what's best for you.
Bethany Bussey
Bethany Bussey2019 University of New Hampshire
Bethany Bussey
Area of study - Environmental Science

Why did you choose this school?

They have a great environmental science program and the size of the school is right for me. Also, the team and coaching staff are really kind and inviting.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
I really enjoyed visiting all the schools and meeting all different players and coaches. ID camps are fun because you meet many different people from all around the US that are also looking to play college soccer. Yet, the overnights were the best part of the process for me because you get a real sense of how the team interacts with one another.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
If you know what you want to major in then narrow your search down to schools with your major that you feel would also be a good fit for the level of soccer you are looking to play. Don’t be rushed in our decision, take your time. Attend large ID camps and then when you figure out a few schools you are really interested in then attend their individual ID camps.

Why did you choose this school?

The campus and student atmosphere is amazing and I believe it is the best place to further my development athletically and academically. The soccer program is very intense and serious. The soccer team is very family-like and has great chemistry.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable part of my recruiting process was spending the day on my unofficial visit because I was able to live the life as a college athlete. I visited the whole campus and most importantly spent a lot of time with the players.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
Be patient with your decision. Don't feel pressure to decide just because one of ur friends already decided. Reach out to the colleges you have great interest in and take time to visit each one.
Dane Hoare
Dane Hoare2019 Illinois Wesleyan University
Dane Hoare
Area of Study - Physics / Engineering

Why did you choose this school?

I chose to attend Illinois Wesleyan University because it fulfilled all areas of my criteria which were a small to medium size school located in a large urban area in the Midwest, and one that offered a physics/engineering program that allowed for some flexibility. I have also had the opportunity over the last few years to get to know the coaches and players on the Titans soccer team. IWU feels like the perfect fit.

What part of the recruiting process was most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable part of the recruiting process was visiting different college campuses and talking to the college coaches on both email and the telephone.  I enjoyed meeting the players and getting to know them on a personal level.  Another thing that excited me was the competition of recruitment at showcases and college ID camps.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the recruiting process?
The advice I would give is to start the recruiting process as early as you can, even before coaches are able to talk to you. Make a list of colleges you are interested in at D1, D2 and D3 levels based your criteria (size, location/area population, major). Stay in contact with each college coach often to show your interest, communicate to them your tournament/showcase schedules, and attend their ID camp.  If possible send them short videos of your play on and off the ball. It is hard for a coach to be everywhere, so get yourself to them.  It is a lot of work, but if you really want it don't give up.
